Blurs (or referred to by nurses as "Visions") are an in-game mechanic featured in Gaymoria Peak Church Asylum, Qweerial Isle Asylum Paradise, De Pride Isle Sanatorium, and 🍄 Les Beyond East. They occur randomly and are a sign of the player losing their sanity and being closer to becoming ill. They last about ten seconds.

During a blur, the player's avatar will do an animation of them clutching their head while slouched over. The player's screen will turn white and blurry, and colors will temporarily become distorted. A ringing noise will also be playing as the blur occurs. After the 4th blur, vines and cages hanging off the walls and roofs would appear.

In Les Beyond East, blurs are referred to as Visions. The player's screen will turn red during a blur, and black and red hands will appear around their avatar as they frantically try to avoid them.

In Gaymoria Peak Church Asylum, the player's screen will blur while tilting to the left. There will also be red text displaying self-deprecating thoughts such as "I am not worthy," "I am not beautiful enough," "What a failure," etc. Gradually, the text becomes more deranged, showing messages like "Kill, kill, kill." By the fourth blur, a red vein texture will show during each blur (which gets clearer in the 5th and 6th blur).

In every game, it takes six blurs to turn into an ill, a minor exception being Les Beyond, which requires only 5. In De Pride Isle Sanatorium and Gaymoria Peak Church Asylum, Holy Water can nullify blurs (removes the effect of two blurs). Special Mixture/Expired Water can force the next blur to happen and move the player further to insanity. Offering to The Heart can also induce 1 - 3 blurs in De Pride Isle Sanatorium.

Trivia[]

  • Eating animations change depending on how infected the player is. There are three stages to this:
    • Normal (0 - 1 Blurs): The player is not infected. They happily look around and eat with their hands.
    • Infected (2 - 5 Blurs): The player is infected but not turned. They begin twitching. The player eats the food aggressively.
    • Turned (6 Blurs): The player has already gotten six blurs. Drowned doesn't use their hands anymore, only mouth. Their head falls to the plate.
  • Blurs, along with the Cannibals, were first introduced on Gaymoria (2018).
  • Since its initial release, Blurs has remained unchanged. The only changes are the cursed text present during a blur in Gaymoria Peak (2024).
  • In Les Beyond East, there is no known way to revert blurs like Holy Water does.
